Under current regulations attics must achieve a U Value of 0.16. There are many different permutations to achieve this, depending on the house type. 300mm fibreglass on ceilings is the most common; however, in dormers or sloped ceilings this is not possible. We use a high density insulation which is fitted between the rafters and usually an insulated slab is fitted over this. This process allows the homeowner to maintain all available space. This depth should not be compressed in any way or removed to accommodate attic storage. See our technical page for required U values under current building regulations.
Fibreglass should be rolled in two layers where possible, first between joists then in the opposite direction over joists to avoid any heat escaping.
