External Wall Insulation (EWI) is a cladding system comprised of insulation, reinforced mesh and waterproof plaster which is applied to all the external walls of a building. The application of EWI is primarily designed to retain the heat in a building and it also leaves you the opportunity to create a whole new look for the exterior of your house.
This method of insulation is usually used in cases where the construction of the building is hollow blocks (9” cavity blocks), solid walls with no cavity or stone finished properties. External insulation is also used widespread in new builds.
The external perimeter of the house is externally insulated using a high density board, 100mm or greater, which is mechanically fixed onto the exterior wall. A base coat render is applied onto the insulation which is bonded with a reinforced mesh which will strengthen the wall. Following the application of two more layers of coating, the wall is ready for finish coat. The homeowner has many different finishes and colours to choose from. There is a suppliers’ product guarantee of works when the work is complete.
